Excerpt from Plato's Phaedo: Edited, With Introduction and Notes
In the Introduction and Notes I have chiefly en deavoured to elucidate the argument, and to show the importance of the P/zaea'o as an historical document. Grammatical points have only been dealt with when they seemed to have a direct bearing on these problems. The interpretation of an ancient document must always be based on grammar, but an edition of the Pkaea'o is not the place for a full discussion of general grammatical problems like the constructions of of; mi and pi; oi'z.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. Plato's 'Phaedo' is a philosophical dialogue set on the day of the execution of Socrates. The author, one of Socrates' students, depicts his teacher's final hours and the arguments about the immortality of the soul. It is widely believed that this text is more a representation of Plato's own beliefs than those of Socrates. This book has been at the heart of Western thought for centuries and stands as one of the earliest works of European literature. Socrates discusses the meaning of death, the nature of the soul, and the possibility of life after death. 'Phaedo' is a moving and thought-provoking work that explores profound questions about life and death and is a significant text in the history of philosophy and Western literature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
