Excerpt from Optical Pyrometry
In response to numerous inquiries which have been addressed to the Bureau of Standards on the availability and choice of pyrometric methods for particular problems, an experimental investigation of all the leading types of Optical pyrometers obtainable has been carried out. This investigation has also been stimulated by the great advances that have been made recently in the development of optical pyrometry. Advances resulting in the production of several simple and trustworthy instruments, called into existence on the one hand by the pressing industrial need of them, and rendered possible on the other hand large] y by the great progress made during the past ten years in our knowledge of the laws of radiation from incandescent bodies.
