The Second Class Book is designed for the use of Schools, as 43 reading book for the in the selection of the various extracts Of which it is composed, care has been taken that the language and sentiment might be adapted to the understanding and improvement of young er scholars. The design of this volume em braces the plan of the Columbian Class Book, with the exec tion that the Notes appended to' many of the Ollowing chapters are es's minute than in the former work; as longitude, subdi visions, and comparatively unimportant boun daries, which might tend to embarrass the minds of youth, are omitted. Questions, prin cipally referring to the notes, are added in an appendix, and the Instructor will exercise his discretion of the propriety Of their application, until the second reading of the book.
