Hitherto it was necessary to send to Europe when ever it seemed advantageous to introduce the student to Baumbach's muse. The poem is ex cellent second-year reading. The notes and helps extended are for students of that degree of ad vancement. No attempt has been made to make anything of the poem but what it is, namely, a de Iightful glimpse into the life of the German peas antry with all their quaintness, all their tenacious adherence to the customs, costumes, traditions and superstitions of the Past.
