Although no proof exists of the fact, we may, however, reasonably infer that Rollo, in the l0th century, possessed the Channel Islands, as well as Normandy and Brittany. Richard the First, third duke of Normandy, banished the monks of Mount Saint Michael to Guernsey, where they settled and built a church, dedicated to Saint Michael, and around these monks, so many other persons congregated, that their posses sion of the land was confirmed by Robert, sixth duke of Normandy.
