Excerpt from Training Infantry
In my commissioned service of over thirty-three years I have spent over twenty-two years with my Q regiment and three years in training a battalion of college cadets. I have been intimately associated Q with the national guard of one state and have had experience with the guard of four other states. I have seen something of foreign troops in both peace and war. In these many years I have observed the methods of training employed by a number of officers.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. Infantry Training from The Making of an Officer outlines essential knowledge, drills and habits officers need to instill in their troops. As the author argues, proper training for the battlefield cannot be accomplished by two or three weeks of target practice a year, but rather through continuous work. The text provides a distillation of the author's experience and observations, as well as lessons learned from the writings and practices of military experts. Unlike other guides of the time period, the author believed that officers at all levels should be capable of training their troops and thereby sought to present the material in a manner that was accessible to all. By following the principles set forth, officers could create a highly trained and effective infantry force capable of meeting the challenges of modern warfare.
