AT the request of Christian friends, I speak to you to-night in reference to what is called the Higher Criticism,' and especially as it regards prophecy in general and the Book of Isaiah in particular. The 'lower Criticism is simply the criticism of the text of the Bible. The Higher' determines whether there is any text to criticize, and if so, whether it is from the author whose name it bears, or is a mass of frag ments, written by half a dozen different men, at different times, unknown to mankind, and imposed upon the Church by ignorant editors and compilers under a false title.
