The task Of coming to a newer and fresher understanding of Jesus is the bounden duty of all confessed Christians, whether orthodox vor liberal, theological or lay. The present study has been made with this one thought in mind. From the more strictly scientific point of view this study aims at two things: 1) a comprehensive survey of the pathographic judg ment against Jesus in both its early and its developed stages; 2) a determination of the correctness of the pathographic posi tion as based upon a sifting of the New Testament sources.
