Second - That as a consequence, a means might be furnished for the sincere Latter-day Saint to arouse his mind from the spiritual lethargy prevailing, and lead him to a higher standard of faith.
Third - That all those who have identified them selves with the preparatory work previous to the com ing of the Lord as a thief in the night, who are yet inexperienced, might be in possession of a text book and guide in aiding them to expand their minds as to a deeper comprehension of the great work which is to be ushered in, and at the same time that this treatise may be recognized by them as a weapon to refute the unwarranted attacks so often advanced from different directions, upon the fundamentals of the same, in con sequence of ignorance and a desire to misrepresent.
