This book explores the question of whether the Roman Catholic Church has changed its stance on various religious and social issues since the Reformation. The author argues that the Church remains fundamentally unchanged in its intolerance, suppression of the Bible, reliance on fraudulent miracles, monastic system, and justification of perjury. By examining recent events and papal writings, the author provides evidence to support his claims. The book places the Catholic Church within a historical context, drawing parallels between its past and present practices. It delves into the theological underpinnings of the Church's teachings, examining the role of tradition and papal authority. The author presents a nuanced analysis of the Church's evolution, highlighting both continuities and changes over time. The book concludes that, despite claims of modernization, the Roman Catholic Church remains an institution rooted in its medieval past. It argues that the Church's authoritarian structure and suppression of dissent pose a threat to individual liberty and the progress of society. By shedding light on the Church's enduring flaws, this book provides valuable insights for understanding its impact on contemporary religious and political discourse.

Excerpt from Semper Idem, or Popery Everywhere and Always the Same: A Sermon Preached in the Parish Church, Cheltenham, on November 5th, 1851
Now to illustrate this further, by passing events, is the task which I propose to myself this day; to prove the identity of Rome antient and modern - to charge home upon her by instances of recent occurrence the principles and practices of the darkest period of her foregone history. And in this attempt I pray God that I may simply speak the truth, without exaggeration or heightened colouring. The facts which I shall adduce are for the most part public and patent to all; and I earnestly invite the attention of my Roman Catholic fellow countrymen to them - not without hope that a candid consideration of them must shake their faith in the infallibility of a Church whose practice is stained with the foulest crimes, and whose faith is disfigured by the darkest corrup tions.
And let it not be forgotten that in pursuing this painful enquiry we are now at least acting on the defensive - our Church, our religious liber ties, our hearths and homes are invaded by the agents of Popery in every shape and form - and if we be not aroused to zealous efforts, we know not how soon our implacable foes may rob us of all that is most valuable in time and in eternity.
