Excerpt from The Manor of Manydown, Hampshire
I know I have fallen far short of my aim, which was to sketch out of these ancient Rolls a full picture of village life in southern England in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. All I can venture to say is that I have done the best I could under the circumstances, and hope that the Hampshire Record Society will take a lenient view Of my shortcomings.

The book delves into the everyday dealings of medieval village life, including the holding of courts, landownership, the role of the church and the impact of the feudal system on the rural population. While studying these documents, the author ponders the changes and continuities that occurred over three centuries, from the 12th century to the 15th century.
