The Author of these Burlesqnes pleads guilty to three charges: He has attempted to hold up certain vices of the age - in the Church and out of the Church - to the ridicule which they deserve; He has gone about this work in a fashion of his own - less in telligible to some, less palatable, perhaps, to others, than he could have wished, but best suited, as it seemed to him, for the purpose in hand; and He has taken the liberty of preserving (in pickle) some of the gro tesque features of our Church controversies, and of the prominent men who have taken part in them.
