Excerpt from The Easiest Way: An Address in the Rodef Shalom Temple Pittsburgh, Sunday, March 30, 1913
When God brought Israel out of Egypt, - let us be old-fashioned enough to use the language of Scripture, He did not take them by the way of the Philistines, al though that was nearer, but He led them by means of a detour through the Arabian desert which consumed forty years, although they might have reached their destina tion in a week or so. Whatever may be the method of inanimate nature it is apparent that God urges His children not to go by the easiest way, but that they rather go by that route which will most surely bring them to their Promised Land duly prepared and properly equipped for the enjoyment of its privileges.
