Excerpt from Interference Measurements of Wave Lengths in the Iron Spectrum, 2851-3701
While for the greater part of the region 2987 A to 3701 A satis factory lines have been found at intervals of 10 A or less, yet there are a few gaps of 1 5 to 20 A where suitable lines are lacking. Both faint and strong lines were measured where that was possible. The advantage of having standards differing greatly in intensity has been discussed in previous papers.16 The investigation will be extended as soon as possible to shorter and longer wave lengths.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the first installment of wave lengths measured at the Bureau of Standards in accordance with an international plan to determine accurate wave lengths in the spectra of iron and other elements, using the length of the red cadmium line as determined by Benoit, Fabry, and Perot as a fundamental standard. The author's purpose was to gather data that might be combined with the results of other observers to furnish international standards, as well as to determine standards at 10-angstrom intervals as recommended by the Solar Union. The book begins with a discussion of the determination of accurate wave lengths in the spectra of iron and other elements and the need for a consistent fundamental system. It then describes the apparatus used, sources of error, and the procedure in making a plate. The author presents the results of the wave lengths, offering comparisons with former measurements. The book concludes with a summary of the results and their significance. These insights are of great value to physicists, chemists, astronomers, and anyone interested in accurate wave length determinations in the spectra of iron and other elements.
