Excerpt from The Climate of Australasia in Reference to Its Control by the Southern Ocean
This cycle does not offer us any simple direct evidence as to the nature of the forthcoming seasons; for it affects the weather of the continents mainly by causing changes in the circulation of the oceans. Now we know that ocean currents vary from year to year, we can understand how the actual irregularities in the seasons are fully consistent with the obvious oceanic control of the climate of the lands in the southern hemisphere. As these irregularities are caused by processes which take a year or more to run their course, we have the means of watching in one year the evolution of the weather we shall experience in the next.
The problems Of long distance weather forecasting may be solved by two methods, each applicable to special areas.
In this address I have referred mainly to the influence of the oceanic Circulation, as its effects may be traced directly in the land masses of the southern hemisphere. In the more complex conditions of the northern hemisphere the oceanic control may not be recognised so directly and there seasonal weather changes are necessarily considered in relation to the atmospheric pressure systems, which have been investigated with such interesting results by the American meteorologists.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the exciting potential of long-range weather forecasting, exploring the intricate relationship between the Southern Ocean and climate patterns in the Southern Hemisphere. Historically, scientists have focused on forecasting through atmospheric pressure systems, but this book challenges that approach by emphasizing the role of oceanic circulation in shaping our weather. The author presents a compelling argument, supported by scientific evidence, that understanding the Southern Ocean's behavior holds the key to unlocking seasonal weather predictions. This book is a must-read for anyone fascinated by the complexities of our planet's weather systems and the possibilities of harnessing that knowledge for the benefit of society.
