As to their merits, others must judge. All the sub jects treated are such as relate to the race with which I am identified. In the discussion of these subjects I have endeavored, whatever may have been my suc cess, to use candor and moderation, to condemn the wrong where I have seen the wrong, and commend the right where I have seen the right, regardless of the section of country in which the one or the other has appeared.
