Demonstrating the use of gastrointestinal lavage as a mechanical method of removing parasites, the author compares its efficacy to the customary medicinal procedure, offering a comparative analysis of their immediate and remote effects on the host animal and its possibilities as a mode of administering medication. The book additionally explores the treatment of burns by the application of paraffin, detailing a series of experiments using paraffin mixtures. It concludes that the action of the better known paraffin preparations is primarily mechanical including splint-like control of local nervous reactions and protection of the wound from air and external influences. Other effects include encouraging new granulations, the reduction of analgesic and cicatrization and the elimination of the need for grafting.
