Conceiving that this indifference and neglect may, in a great measure, be attributable to the want of a popular guide to the geological phenomena of the Island, for the well informed, but unscientific visitors, I have attempted to supply the deficiency in the present volume; which is designed to afford a familiar explanation of the physical structure of the Isle of Wight, and of the adjacent coast of Dorsetshire, and of the organic remains which abound in many of the localities that Will come.
