Excerpt from Instructions To His Son: Inaugural-Dissertation
Die folgende Abhandlung hat das einzige erhaltene Werk des jetzt fast ganz unbekannten Dichters Peter Idle zum Gegen stand, der im fünfzehnten Jahrhundert in England lebte. Die Erhaltung seines Gedichtes in vier Handschriften, von denen zwei in Sammelbänden neben Gedichten von Chaucer, Lydgate und Hoccleve aufgezeichnet sind, läßt darauf schließen, daß er zu seiner Zeit einiges Ansehen genoß.
M. Foers'ter hat neuerdings im Archiv fur neuere Sprachen und Literaturen Bd. 104 S. 293 ff. In einem Artikel auf den Dichter aufmerksam gemacht und zur Bearbeitung angeregt. Dort sind auch die lateinische Vorrede, Strophe 1 - 3 und die darauf folgende lateinische Stelle nach der Hand schrift von London abgedruckt. Außerdem hat noch Furnivall in der Early English Text Society Extra Series. Bd. 8 S. 109 ff. Strophe 6 - 15 nach der Handschrift von Cambridge gedruckt.
