Excerpt from Stories and Outlines for Composition
The purpose of this book is to provide, for the use of teachers in elementary schools, a fund of materials for composition, to supplement those in the authorized text-books. The author has tried to write the stories, many of which will be recognized as old and familiar friends, in a form that will be suitable to the capacity of the pupils for whom they are designed. The picture stories are developed from pictures that are familiar and easily obtainable, many of them appearing in text-books in Composition in use in the schools. The outlines, which appear in the latter part of the book, are based upon topics which will be easily adjusted to the interests of the pupils. A few of these outlines are derived from well-known stories and poems, which frequently appear in school Readers, and which, in any event, are easily accessible to teachers. It is hoped that the brief suggestions as to method will be found useful in the presentation of the materials to pupils.
