Excerpt from The Journal of Mental Science<br/><br/>In the still more interesting but more difficult investigation of the local distribution of the different varieties of insanity, in other words the various diseases which are included under that name, the only reliable data are the facts recorded in the county and district asylum reports. Unfortunately, these are not all drawn up on one plan, no absolutely uniform nomenclature or classification is adopted, and they have not all as yet adopted the forms of statistical tables recommended by the medico-psychological Society, so that this part of the enquiry cannot be made so exhaustive or complete as the other. A sufficient number of uniform facts can, however, be got from the reports of asylums, scattered over the various parts of the country, on which to base fairly reliable generali sations. I shall endeavour to throw the numbers and facts into tabular forms as much as possible for the sake of reference.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the problem of insanity, with a view of establishing a clear connection between causes and effects. The author draws on a set of cases he has collected, all of which feature insanity in some form, to present a comprehensive overview of a disease which at the time could be as much a social as medical problem. The author grapples with the medical understanding of the day, and the difficulties faced by those who fell victim to the condition. The strength of the book comes from the level of detail and clarity presented in the case studies, and the insights provided into this sadly common issue. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 9781334705441_0
