Excerpt from Catalogue of Recent Ophiurans: Based on the Collection of the Museum of Comparative Zoölogy
This catalogue is a list of all ophiurans described up to January 1, 1915. It is too much to expect that there are no omissions whatever but a serious attempt has been made to have the list complete. While no synonymy is given in the main body of the text, the indexes are supposed to include every generic and specific name hitherto_ given to Recent ophiurans. By means of these indexes, the present status of any genus or species can be promptly determined. It is hoped that this brief and compact arrangement will make the catalogue of real value.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive catalogue of all known living ophiurans, a group of marine animals closely related to starfish. The catalogue was compiled by a leading authority on the subject, drawing upon the vast collection of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard College, which boasts more than half of all known species. The author provides detailed descriptions of over 750 species, including 53 new discoveries based on the museum's collection, many of which were gathered during a recent expedition to Australia. This work represents a significant contribution to the field of marine biology, building upon the pioneering work of Theodore Lyman, whose 1865 catalogue of ophiurans marked the beginning of a rich history of research on these fascinating creatures. The author also explores the complex phylogenetic relationships of these animals, highlighting the need for further investigation into their intricate evolutionary history. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the classification, identification, and evolution of this unique group of marine invertebrates.
