A Responsive Parent’s Guide to Self-Regulation and Co-Regulation "Parenting peels away the layers of who you try and pretend to be, until only your raw soul is left to bare. From that unprotected state we either begin to heal or lose ourselves in the lost layers of a reality that no longer exists. Children are authentic and expect the same of those around them. We often don’t realize how detached we have become from our authentic selves, until our children come searching for that lost person. As children do, they keep searching, despite barriers. They demand authenticity and truth. We so often need to connect with the child inside of us to understand the child in front of us. This book combines my knowledge of child development, brain science and trauma to offer parents a unique resource that includes lots of exercises, reflections and insights.” J. Milburn This book combines J. Milburn's knowledge of child development, brain science and trauma to offer parents a unique resource that includes lots of exercises, reflections, insights and also… links to additional research, articles and videos that can help support your learning.

J. Milburn is a mother of 3 with a Degree in Child Development and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, from Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Jessica was adopted at birth and raised by her adoptive parents in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Jessica and her family spent over a decade in Ontario but moved back to Nova Scotia in 2019. Jessica started blogging about parenting and child development around 2018. Since then, she has developed workshops and books to share her knowledge of child development and parenting with others. Jessica has a unique perspective as she is a C-PTSD survivor. Jessica's home is also neurodivergent, so her insight reflects an inclusive, neuro-affirming perspective. Prior to becoming an online parenting mentor, Jessica worked as an ECE. Her experience in Early Childhood Education was at Reggio Amelia inspired centres. The centre she spent the most time at was the Lab School at Seneca College. This school was Reggio inspired, and also had a Forest School. Jessica was involved in the Forest School research that was going on, at the time, and that experience has influenced her perspective of children and learning. Jessica has knowledge and experience in a variety of areas of child development, such as Attachment, Mental Health, Child-led Learning, Feeding and Sleep, Understanding and Responding to Behaviour, Family Systems, Early Literacy Development, Physical Literacy, Neurodivergent children and families, Responsive Toilet Learning, and much more.
