Stutterstep is many things. It is a love story, a story of self-discovery, a story about friendship. Its central characters are a dreamer living in the past and a realist firmly ensconced in the here and now. It takes place in two vastly different settings, the Arizona desert and the low-lying delta of New Orleans.
In Stutterstep, the reader meets daydreamer Elias. An idealist seeking his destiny, he is hell-bent on self-discovery but clueless as to finding it. In Tucson, Arizona, roommates Rebecca and Jessie meet Elias, a most unlikely candidate as a suitor for one of the girls. Then events take an intriguing turn when Elias believes a crucial figure from his past may have suddenly reappeared in his life. As Elias seeks out the truth about his past, he comes face to face with the hard realities of his future.
Following a shocking series of events, the setting shifts from the desert to the humid streets of the French Quarter in New Orleans where Elias and three friends play out a winner-take-all game that may determine the futures of Rebecca and Jessie. And Elias.
