Inhaltsangabe

The Vision Splendid is a novel written by William MacLeod Raine. The story is set in the American West during the early 20th century and follows the life of a young man named Jack Harpe. Jack is a talented artist who dreams of becoming a successful painter, but his father wants him to follow in his footsteps and become a rancher. Despite his father's wishes, Jack leaves home to pursue his passion for art.As Jack travels across the West, he encounters a wide range of characters, including cowboys, outlaws, and artists. He also falls in love with a young woman named Belle, who shares his passion for art. Together, Jack and Belle work to overcome the challenges they face as they try to make a living as artists in a world that values practicality over creativity.Throughout the novel, Jack struggles to reconcile his love for art with his duty to his family and his community. He must also confront the harsh realities of life in the West, including violence, poverty, and prejudice. Despite these challenges, Jack remains committed to his dream of creating beautiful works of art that capture the beauty and majesty of the American West. The Vision Splendid is a compelling story of love, ambition, and the power of art to inspire and transform. It offers a vivid and realistic portrayal of life in the American West during a time of great change and upheaval.Perhaps the very freedom of these vacation excursions helped to feed his growing discontent. The yeast of rebellion was forever stirring in him. He wanted to come to life with open mind. He was possessed of an insatiable curiosity about it. This took him to the slums of Verden, to the redlight district, to Socialist meetings, to a striking coal camp near the city where he narrowly escaped being killed as a scab. He knew that something was wrong with our social life. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

William MacLeod Raine, a British-born American novelist, wrote imaginary adventure novels set in the American Old West. In 1959, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum recognized him into its Hall of Great Westerners. William MacLeod Raine was born in London as the son of William and Jessie Raine. When Raine was ten years old, his family moved from England to Arkansas, finally settling on a cattle ranch on the Texas-Arkansas border. His mother died. After graduating from Oberlin College in 1894, Raine left Arkansas and traveled to the western United States. He became the principal of a school in Seattle while writing pieces for a local newspaper. At this point, he began to publish short pieces, eventually becoming a full-time free-lance fiction writer and discovering his literary voice in the novel. His early writings were romantic histories set in the English countryside. However, after spending time with the Arizona Rangers, Raine altered his writing concentration and began to use the American West as a backdrop. Wyoming's release in 1908 marked the start of his prolific career, during which he averaged roughly two western books per year until his death in 1954.
