Inhaltsangabe

"The Doors of Infinity" is a speculative fiction novel set against the backdrop of rapid technological advancements and societal change. Published in 1987, the story reflects on the impact of new technologies on human civilization through the lens of its characters' lives and the mysterious company, TeleTransit.

The narrative unfolds in a world where humanity has made leaps in adopting miraculous technologies without fully understanding their implications. It reminisces about a simpler past while grappling with the complexities and privacy trade-offs of the digital age. The protagonist, Kate MacPherson, is a scientist caught in the whirlwind of these changes, alongside other characters spread across the United States, each encountering the odd new company TeleTransit in their own way.
TeleTransit, with its enigmatic Doors marked with the infinity symbol, promises instantaneous transportation across vast distances, a concept that baffles and excites the public and experts alike. As the company prepares to launch its revolutionary service, individuals from different walks of life, including journalists, scientists, and ordinary citizens, confront the potential reality of a world where distances are rendered meaningless, sparking a mix of wonder, skepticism, and fear.

The novel explores themes of change, the human relationship with technology, and the uncharted ethical territory of groundbreaking scientific discoveries. As the characters navigate their personal and professional dilemmas, the story delves into the broader societal implications of such advancements, questioning the readiness of humanity for the doors that, once opened, might change everything.
