Dr. Mario Hernandez earned his medical degree from the Nacional University of Colombia in 1983 and work as an emergency physician for more than 15 years. In the United States, Dr. Hernandez has had the great opportunity to work with different institutions of primary care. He is impressed by the imperative need of clear guidance on how to provide quality of communication in health care to limited-English proficient populations. As a Family Physician he works against the systematic bias present in the medical encounter, as manifested by health care organizations: "The delivery of health care services in a manner that is respectful and appropriate to an individual's language and culture is more than simply a patient's right, but is, in fact, a key factor in the safety and quality of patient care".
