Inhaltsangabe

Join the Peers family in this adventure of murder and mayhem. A Wildfire called civilization swept westward and settled this nation. Young Jesse Peers ventures to the plains along with Pearl and Hannah. Sara Ann and Emory Peers own property along the middle Loup River. Friendships formed with the Sikes family bring turmoil into their lives. Hans Sikes creates havoc throughout his family. His daughters, Rose and Maggie, lovely and willful, are a challenge to tolerate and impossible to control. Greta Sikes, Hans'clever wife, is always meddling. Sheriff Sikes has a yellow streak for a law officer. Obediah Riddle and his half-cast daughter bring more mystery into their lives. This is the heroic account of the homesteaders of the plains who battled blizzards, droughts, hardships, and violence when lawlessness prevailed. William Butler, aka Wild Bill Hickok noted: "If a man is assailed and challenged by someone with a gun, and you were quicker and the bullet was before you, you could get away with almost anything." Lawlessness was the code that men lived by and protected themselves against. It is a love story of the adventurous people of the plains, the wonderful folks who live there even now.
