Scottish Metaphysics: Reconstructed In Accordance With The Principles Of Physical Science is a book written by E. Edmond that explores the intersection of metaphysics and physical science. The book provides a detailed analysis of the Scottish school of metaphysics, which emerged in the 18th century and was heavily influenced by the Enlightenment. Edmond argues that Scottish metaphysics can be reconstructed and updated to align with modern principles of physical science. The book covers a wide range of topics, including the nature of reality, causation, free will, and the relationship between mind and body. Edmond draws on the work of prominent Scottish philosophers such as David Hume, Thomas Reid, and Dugald Stewart, as well as contemporary scientific theories and discoveries. Throughout the book, Edmond emphasizes the importance of empirical evidence and scientific methodology in understanding the world around us. He argues that a scientific approach can help to resolve longstanding debates in metaphysics and provide a more accurate understanding of the nature of reality. Overall, Scottish Metaphysics: Reconstructed In Accordance With The Principles Of Physical Science is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of the intersection of philosophy and science. It will be of interest to anyone interested in metaphysics, philosophy of science, or the history of Scottish philosophy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Scottish Metaphysics may with advantage be restated or reconstructed somewhat in correspondence with the lines of Physical Science, taken in its widest sense as including organic nature as well as inorganic. This would lead us to deal with the mind and its opera tions, as we do with the body and its actions, by viewing the mind as having its hyperphysical environments and being active therein, even as the body is active in the midst of its physical environments. As Physiology orB iology is the science of the living organism and its functions, soP sychology is the science of the mind and its functions; but as we have Physics or Physical science, which embraces the former and goes beyond it, so we have Metaphysics, which embraces Psychology and goes beyond it. And as we would not study physical nature by limiting ourselves to only an organ ised portion of it viz.
