Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Thomas Sherlock was a prominent figure in religious scholarship whose long service in the Church of England shaped his reputation as a leading voice in Christian thought. Born in London in 1678 to William Sherlock, he received his early education at Eton College before continuing his studies at St Catharines College, experiences that helped form the intellectual foundation for his later theological work. Over the course of thirty three years as a bishop, he played an influential role in church administration while becoming widely recognized for his engagement with questions of belief, reason, and the interpretation of sacred history. His contributions to Christian apologetics reflect a steady commitment to examining faith through structured argument and careful analysis, a method mirrored in works that frame religious inquiry through the lens of rational evaluation. His writings often highlight the need to reconcile conviction with thoughtful examination, a concern consistent with the broader themes explored in his theological reflections. He died on 18 July 1761 at the age of eighty three.
