A First Greek Writer: With Exercises And Vocabularies is a book written by Arthur Sidgwick and first published in 1883. The book is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the Greek language for beginners. It is intended for students who have already learned the basics of Greek grammar and syntax and are ready to start reading and writing in the language. The book is divided into two parts. The first part contains a series of exercises that gradually increase in difficulty. These exercises are designed to help students practice their Greek writing skills and reinforce their understanding of grammar and syntax. The second part of the book contains a vocabulary list, which includes all the words used in the exercises. The exercises in the book cover a wide range of topics, including mythology, history, and everyday life in ancient Greece. They are designed to be engaging and interesting, and they provide students with the opportunity to practice their Greek reading and writing skills in a fun and interactive way. Overall, A First Greek Writer: With Exercises And Vocabularies is an excellent resource for anyone who is interested in learning the Greek language. It provides a solid foundation in Greek grammar and syntax, and it offers plenty of opportunities for practice and reinforcement. Whether you are a student, a teacher, or simply someone who is interested in ancient Greece, this book is sure to be a valuable addition to your library. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The object of this little book is to help those who are beginning Greek to learn from the first to write the language as well as read it. There is among many teachers a strong belief (which I am inclined to share) that Greek is mastered much more efifectively if a little writing be combined with the reading, even from the earliest stages. The great inferiority of the knowledge of Greek acquired at schools, as compared with Latin, is partly, no doubt, due to the language being harder and begun later, but partly also to the fact that Latin writing is cultivated from the first, while Greek writing is so commonly neglected. The dij Biculties of Greek composition fall naturally into three heads, difficulties of A ccidence, of Syntax, and of I diom. Speaking broadly, this book is meant to deal chiefly with the first, and so may serve as a first stage (for those who mean to pursue the study) to my Introduction to Oreek Prose Composition which deals with the other two sets of difficulties included under the head of Syntax and I diom. An Introduction to Oreek Prose Composition, by A. Sidgwick (B ivingtons).
