The rapidity with which the first edition of these lectures was exhausted and the favour with which the hook was generally received by the public press, especially inC hina, encouraged the author to satisfy the continuing demand for it by a second edition, which was published in the year 1873. This second edition having met with unexpected success both in Europe and in A merica, a third edition is now urgently called for. In view of the results of more recent investigations, the whole has been revised and extensive additions have been made here and there, but the original form and the main substance of these lectures have undergone but little alteration. Hongkong, A ugust, 1884. E. J. E.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a rich exploration of Buddhism, one of the world's major religions, delving into three key aspects: its historical origins, its theoretical foundations, and its popular manifestations. The author draws upon years of study and extensive research to provide a comprehensive overview of Buddhism, tracing its historical development and examining its fundamental doctrines and beliefs. The book delves into the social and cultural context in which Buddhism emerged, shedding light on the life and teachings of its founder, Shakyamuni Gautama Buddha. It then explores the complex philosophical system of Buddhism, including its theories on karma, rebirth, and the nature of reality. Finally, the author examines the popular expressions of Buddhism, including its rituals, festivals, and the role it plays in the daily lives of its adherents. This book is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand the history, philosophy, and cultural impact of Buddhism, providing a deep understanding of this ancient and enduring spiritual tradition.
