American andE uropean Geology. The recent geological surveys have made us acquainted with the Geology of the American continent, especially of the United States and theB ritish Provinces. From the greai amount of material thus furnished, such selections and classifications have been made as to present American Geology in a systematic form; the subject is not treated, however, with exclusive reference to A merica, but the facts and deductions pertaining to each portion of the globe have been combined in one comprehensive system. Although the book is elementary in its character, and particularly designed for students in Geology, it is not limited to the mere detail of facts or to scientific description; but, with a view of rendering the subject attractive to the general reader, the most important theories of the science are discussed, with its practical applications and relations toN atural Theology andR evelation. The printed sheets were first used in the instruction of classes in Geology, and subjected to the criticism of scientific friends. The work has since been revised and reprinted. It is believed, therefore, that the student will find it clear in statement, and free from any important scientific errors.
