Chapter One

"Devin, it's time to go to sleep," Devin's mother said.

"It's a special night for you! You no longer have to sleep in your crib! You get to sleep in your new big-boy bed that you helped Mommy and Daddy pick out at the store."

"Oh, but Mommy, I like my crib. I don't want to sleep in that big bed," Devin said.

"Devin, you have to sleep in your new bed tonight. You and Daddy took apart your crib this morning when they delivered your new bed. See, it's still there in the corner of your room."

"Oh yeah, I forgot" Devin said, looking sad. "But Mommy, I don't want to go to bed right now. I'm not tired," he said while yawning and rubbing his eyes.

"I know," said Devin's mommy, "how about we crawl into bed together, and we read your favorite story?"

"Okay, Mommy! Can we read the book about the monkey? He's funny."

"That's fine, Devin. I'll get it for us," his mommy said.

Devin's mother went to the bookcase and found the book about the monkey. She got back into bed and snuggled up really close to Devin. Devin rested his head on her shoulder as she held the book up for them to read.

When they finished reading the story, Devin said, "Mommy, I love that story. We haven't read that book in a long time. Could we read it again?"

"Not tonight, Devin. It's really late. It's time for you to go to sleep. But watch out! Are you ready?" called his mommy. "Here comes our special goodnight kiss!"

Devin giggled while his mommy kissed him all over his face and neck.
