Based upon actual events that took place in 1991 in Kileen, Texas, at a cafeteria, The Neuron Factor centers on a fictional instance of random killing. A lone gunman walks into Lloyd's Restaurant in Broadville, Louisiana, and brutally takes the lives of many innocent people. Among those brutally murdered are the daughter-in-law and granddaughter of Ed Peel. He and his wife, Ann, are devastated by their loss; the randomness of the killing is incomprehensible to them.
What drove the gunman to brutally murder all of those people? The killer had no apparent motive and no history of mental problems. Ed calls together several of his friends and asks them to join him in starting a think tank to examine this growing problem. They examine the possible causes of the gunman's sudden, insane, aggressive behavior, and some of the potential answers are so outlandish that they call into question the rationality of the group. Will they be able to find the answers that they are so desperately seeking? Will this group be able to affect change in light of such a tragedy?
