As far as this book is concerned this book is based on a true story. This book has been written by an asylum seeker, me, who has been living in England for over ten years. This book was written to enlighten people about some of the hidden stories about my country called Zimbabwe. Getting our Independence to me was more of a nightmare than a celebration of black majority rule. My experiences have shown me however that it’s perhaps not surprising and I have come to realize that – in a split second, one can become homeless with nothing to live on and a refugee in another country. Whatever dreams I had had from when I was only a little girl to when I became a young woman, they were all about being successful in whatever profession I would choose to pursue. One thing that I never dreamt of was leaving my country Zimbabwe to settle in a foreign country with uncertain future I never dreamt of working in a residential home for the elderly as a carer I never dreamt of working in a hospital, let alone in a foreign country. My dreams have been shattered My research on the Pre- Rhodesian period, Rhodesian period and Zimbabwe period has answered a lot of questions that I had about the issues that tore the country apart. I hope that the next generation of Zimbabwe will not suffer the atrocities that I suffered. Race and history are not the barriers but they are the concealment to the good life in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has been destroyed by the worst instinct of human nature, by the unreasonable of ambition, power – lust and greed. The thing is as a Zimbabwean I pray and hope that the truth, justice and integrity will prevail one day. As much as the signals of a dying nation Zimbabwe are very painful, I suppose as Zimbabweans we will have to come to terms with what the country is going through at this moment and time. Let’s hope that the political and economic situation will change one day.
