She has taught 144 university course sections across the curriculum and achieved tenure as a university professor. She has an earened Ph.D. and two earned M.A. degrees and has served as a teacher trainer and community resource.. Dr. Carlin has taught children, parents, student teachers, and teachers in topics ranging from literacy to literature, research to writing, technical writing, creative writing for publication, and business/professional writing. Dr. Carlin has also taught advanced grammar to education majors. She has worked for a film studio and a magazine publisher, pulled manual type for printing and served on literary magazine editorial boards, started numerous writers' guilds and directed 4 regional writers' conferences. She is a published novelist and textbook author.
