Allan Thomson was asked to prepare one on New Zealand but illness prevented his compliance with the request. It is obvious that it is necessary to have a statement on New Zealand in order to make this discussion complete, because New Zealand is both an area in which there are many fossils and one that exemplifies the difficulties of making geological correlations with other parts of the world in an isolated region of the Pacific.
