I admit I've only watched the television show based on this series, but now I see how Essie Davis was able to breathe life in to one of my favorite fictional characters, Phryne Fisher, it's all there on the page!...Great characters, great plot!

Phryne Fisher is my favorite flapper! Her outfits are shocking, her morality questionable, and her quick wit and intellect unstoppable. She lives a most unconventional lifestyle, and she owns it! The historical details in Greenwood's series are well-researched, and Phryne's extensive and oh-so-stylish wardrobe is described beautifully. This was a thoroughly enjoyable mystery, and I would recommend the series to anyone looking for a good read - regardless of whether you typically read historical fiction, you'll love Phryne.

And much as I enjoyed the episode based on this book, I'm kind of happy to say I enjoyed the book more. Characters' motivations were clearer, and the extra time I got to spend with them was appreciated. And there was no wombat in the episode....The adventure into the Australian Alps and Phryne's time there (note the tap-dancing to avoid spoilers) were wonderful. "I've got a dog and a horse and all the silence in the world." I want that ... I really want that, "Lovely and high and far away."

Love the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries on PBS. The Green Mill Murder by Kerry Greenwood gives more depth to the characters, the times, and the mysteries. Interest bits that aren't featured in the TV shows. Very enjoyable read. Looking for more in the book series.

I very much enjoy watching the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries on TV, but have not, until now, managed to actually get around to reading any of Kerry Greenwood's novels featuring the stylish sleuth.
