Honoring the great Oak Park literary tradition, here is the second volume of selected original writings by members of The Oak Park Writers Group. Within these covers, you’ll find a rich assortment of excellent prose and poetry especially selected for your enjoyment. We’re confident you’ll develop a fond appreciation for our community’s talented writers who not only love their craft, but are also eager to share their creations with you. For example: Mary Ann Eiler’s splendid poetry has been published internationally for good reason. We’re honored to offer a sampling of her deft strokes of poetic elegance for you to savor. Diane Macjeiwski will touch your heart with her powerful story of imperishable friendship amidst the horror of 9/11. Mary Lou Edwards makes a big splash when she takes you on a tropical kayaking excursion. Don’t those things come with airbags, Mary Lou? Dan Giloth books a chilling journey of white flight through a youngster’s eyes. You can’t reserve this flight online. Felicia Wolf relates the story of how her mother used her feminine wiles and a pesky flat tire to get her man. Ahhh, what a Goodyear it was! Marita Zeller writes a thoughtful memoir about her years teaching in the inner city during the Civil Rights Movement, and her close encounter with Dr. King. Dr. Janis Johnston ponders the amazement some parents experience at the unexpected arrival of babies after sex. Hope Hommersand takes you on a shopping spree at Macy’s, doing her civic part to avert a double dip recession. AND: The winners are here! The wonderful original poems and absorbing prose from the winners of OPWG’s First Annual High School Creative Prose and Poetry Competition will surely delight you, and give assurance that youngsters can write!
