From catastrophe to praxis, this book will integrate multiple aspects that an adult individual, who has acquired a physical disability, will be able to use, to not only validate their existence as they are, but also, guide them through their new existence and into a solid reality. Even if they did not have a steady life base before their disability I hope to help others learn to feel secure, in any situation.
There have been self-help books about disabilities in the past, however, this book is directed not only to the adult individual, but to parents, with very candid examples of true help, actual scenarios and resources. It will help everyone take a step back, before moving on, discovering empowerment and the future rather than floundering in the past.

At the age of 54, Kathryn R. Fitzgerald has spent just under half of her life navigating the world with a severe physical disability. The physical and emotional obstacles proved only to increase the tenacity she was born with that carried her through a tumultuous family life growing up. Even though she was a two-time high school dropout, she managed to receive a GED while struggling through a difficult divorce and battling for equal parental custody of her two small children. She lived alone (with outside help), when she first became disabled. Kathryn became active with several disability rights agencies, taught herself computers and attended physical and emotional therapy. As time progressed, she was able to continue her education and received an AAS in Computer Graphics and then began working part-time, designing websites and in the family business. She also worked as an instructor/mentor in a local After School Matters program, providing inner city youth with design knowledge using applications as well as the lesson of inclusion, to enhance their lives. She continues to combine her passion for art via computers with physical assistance from her companion to create graphic designed T-shirts, while also volunteering for a nationally acclaimed museum for many years. Her vision is to write a series of books to assist adults in living full, productive and independent lives in whatever capacity they see fit.
