Reseña del editor:

Here we go again: a crisis in Ukraine and Russia painted the Bogeyman. Why did it happen? Where will it end? The West is remorseless in its efforts to isolate Russia- to back its leaders into a corner, to paint a grim picture of millions of decent, hard working Russians behind lurid Western headlines. Russia is never given an inch- yet far less benign powers are routinely given a mile. Blue chip Western media outlets have long extolled the Russian opposition to stage a 'Russian spring'- a prospect dreaded by the Russian people, seeking only peace and stability after centuries of deprivation and suffering. In a hard-hitting analysis, Mary Kirwan argues that ignorance about Russia is not bliss. She voices her deep concern that we are spoiling for a fight-with a people who want to be our friend.

Biografía del autor:

Mary Kirwan is Irish. She is a barrister and qualified to practice law on three continents. She is a Fellow of the American Bar Association. She spent a period as a Canadian Federal drug and wiretap prosecutor. She also worked in the cyber security sector for many years and wrote a popular column on the subject for the Globe and Mail. She was widely quoted in the international press. Her other passion is Russia and trying to provoke a balanced debate about a people she admires, with much in common with her countrymen and women in Ireland.

Buchbeschreibung Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2013. Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Russia rarely gets good press in the West. The author argues that the millions of Russians behind the lurid headlines deserve better. She also describes endemic stereotyping of Russia and Russians in Western media coverage and in Western movies and literature. She argues that while Russia is rarely given an inch, far less benign powers are routinely given a mile as double standards in how we judge Russia- a young nation- are rife. In a hard-hitting analysis, Mary Kirwan argues that ignorance about Russia is not bliss but is endemic amongst Western politicians who perceive geopolitical advantage in isolating Russia by portraying it as our enemy and the Bogeyman in our midst. She argues that this strategy will only succeed in alienating Russia by resurrecting old fears about encirclement and threats to its borders. She maintains that this stance may push Russia closer to China and other world powers long resentful of Western hegemony. She also argues that trying to force regime change in Russia and to push Western societal norms on Russians that do not resonate with them will only increase the gulf that has existed for too long between a nation that saved the West, through enormous personal sacrifice, from the Nazi scourge. She fears we are close to driving a permanent wedge between our peoples that is wholly avoidable and that may ultimately result in us sleepwalking into a conflict that Russia does not seek. Sufficiently threatened, however, Russia and Russians will not flinch in defending its interests and borders. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers APC9781481926898
