This book, a collection of his stories and writings, spans his career and includes humorous tales from his student days, his adventures as a musician in the Catskill mountains in New York, his years conducting bands at North Shore schools and Radford University, and his move to higher education administration. Included in this collection are Bennett's speeches and editorials addressing critical issues in arts education as well as personal reflections on people he has loved.

After graduating from The Juilliard School of Music and Teachers College, Columbia University, Bennett Lentczner began his career as a freelance trumpet player and a band director on Long Island, NY. His musical work with students was widely recognized and motivated him to study conducting, earning the Doctor of Arts degree from Ball State University. Bennett enjoyed much success as a collegiate conductor and was lured into the world of academic administration where he spent 20 years helping faculty and students fulfill their potential. Today Bennett lives in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia with his wife, musician and writer Linda Whitesitt, and two adoring cats, Omar and Heshie. He remains active as a trumpet player and, when given the opportunity, raises his baton to the delight of players and audiences alike. He and his wife have recently published a book “Were Surviving Cancer . . . Today” about their journey with Bennett’s lung cancer.
