Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Ada Negri (1870 - 1945) was one of the most celebrated poets and public figures of her time. A working class child gifted with a poetic voice, she rose to fame as a heroine of the poor and downtrodden. Her poems celebrating the beauty of nature and the plight of workers and women were published throughout Europe. In her later years, her writing became more personal and contemplative as she wrote prose works, such as Le Strade. Elected the first woman member of the Italian Academy (in 1940), Negri 's name was once known around the world. After WWII, she was branded as having been too cozy with Musolini and fell out of favor with Italian critics. As was her life, Negri's work is complex and multi-faceted. She deserves to be read again. Erica I. Walch has a M.A. in Translation Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She specializes in the translation of nineteenth century Italian women writers.
