Gwenelle S. O'Neal’s new text From Oppression to Inclusion: Social Workers Advancing Change is intended for use in diversity courses found in most social work programs. It provides a framework for examining the history of oppression that perpetuates contemporary social divisions and maintains social injustice, promotes personal assessment of social work values and offers pathways for collaboration and capacity building. The book is unique in that it integrates a collection of culturally affirming materials that illuminates student awareness of multicultural and intersectional voices. Voices included but are not limited to people of color, women, LGBT, those challenged by disability, and more. The culturally affirming materials include content from film, literature, poetry, music and art by people of color and is used as the basis for critical thinking.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Gwenelle Styles O’Neal is a Professor at West Chester University Graduate Social Work Department. Dr. O’Neal teaches Human Behavior and the Social Environment and Advanced Practice with Communities. Her research interest includes mental health services to children and adolescents with a primary emphasis n prevention teaching strategies for community practice, and student assessment. She advocates using literary multicultural resources and developing partnerships with community organizations.
