David Herbert Lawrence (1885 – 1930) was one of the greatest 20th-century British novelists, short-story and travel book writers who published as D. H. Lawrence. D. H. Lawrence is perhaps best known for his novels “Sons and Lovers”, “The Rainbow, Women in Love” and “Lady Chatterley's Lover”, which was especially controversial and banned as pornographic. His collected works represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation. In them, Lawrence confronts issues relating to emotional health and vitality, spontaneity, and instinct. Lawrence's first-published works (in 1909) were poems, and his poetry, especially his evocations of the natural world, have since had a significant influence on many poets on both sides of the Atlantic. His works represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation. Lawrence became really famous after his death. Before he had written too unconventionally and made too many enemies. But by the 1960s he was widely seen as one of the great novelists of the twentieth century..
