Nolan Saltzman, Ph.D. has practiced psychotherapy for 44 years. He is married to Carol Deegan, journalist with The Associated Press. Their son Shep is happily married and a brilliant software engineer, besides. Granddaughter Eloise is amazing! Dr. Saltzman received a Master's in molecular biology from the Graduate Faculties of Columbia University and a Doctorate in Industrial Psychology from Indiana Northern University. For decades he demonstrated the application of the group form of his therapy to the workplace. Dr. Saltzman taught Anatomy and Physiology and his own course in Evolution at three NYC universities. One of his favorite commendations is from Al Mahrer, Ph.D., who was named Psychologist of the Year by the American Psychology Association. Prof. Mahrer's team listens to tapes of therapy to determine what works. A client of Dr. Saltzman made tapes of her sessions with him. Two tapes were sent to Al Mahrer at his request. Here is Prof. Mahrer’s response: "My research team is finishing the first tape. We found four places where the team thought there were truly impressive changes. And we spent weeks studying those four places. "I just finished listening to your second tape. Damn, you are good, and your methods are so different. I know they will slide into what I do. It is a pleasure learning from you. Some day I can tell you how and why you are a great therapist!" Dr. Saltzman’s THERAPY WARS was selected by two professional book clubs as Book of the Month and Featured Alternate, and acclaimed by Rutgers Graduate School of Psychology Distinguished Professor Arnold A. Lazarus: “A tour de force that stands alone in the annals of psychotherapy!” Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine, Victoria Morrow writes of THE GOOD SCREAM: “This is a seminal work! THE GOOD SCREAM shows how freeing fundamental expressive drives heals early wounds and fosters cognitive awareness in therapy for a wide range of neuroses and character disorders. Dr. Saltzman’s deep understanding of psychoanalytic principles lends subtlety and wisdom to his clinical examples. His clearly articulated procedures reach the depths of the human psyche. THE GOOD SCREAM emphasizes support for the patient. Dr. Saltzman’s compassionate approach to psychological health is aligned with the best of modern ego-psychology.”
