CHAPTER 1

Lester took a walk. He approached a store. He stopped, peered into the window and decided to go in.

He was like a kid in a candy store. Which is exactly what he was.

In walked Jake the Snake. While Elle the store owner busied herself behind the counter, Jake swiped two candy bars.

One was for himself, the other he slipped into Lester's pocket. Then Jake left.

Lester hung out a while. "May I help you with something?" Elle asked. "No, just browsing," said Lester. Then Lester left.

Outside the store, the cops nabbed Lester. They threw him behind bars.

The next day, at Lester's trial, he appeared before Judge Jude Icial. "I should throw the book at you for stealing," the judge said. Which is exactly what he did.

In Lester's defense, his lawyer, Barry Stir, wearing his best law suit, made a motion. Something like a backwards hop on one foot with his fingers in his ears.

The judge was angry. "This may be a kangaroo court, but I will not allow such foolishness," he said. Lester spoke up, "I never saw that candy bar before in my life!"
