Inhaltsangabe

My friend Sue and I had spent so much time together we felt like sisters. We had made so many plans for our future, as young girls do. We would graduate from school, get married, have a career, children and we would be lifelong friends sharing those moments together. Part of that dream had already come true. Sue was a year older than myself. I went to her graduation and was so proud of her. She had just got an apartment with her boyfriend. I was halfway through my senior year. We went Christmas shopping at the mall. But by January 16, 1980, my friend Sue went missing. When I graduated, Sue was not there. Then I got my first apartment, still no Sue. I would hear nothing about what happened to Sue for fifteen years. Now I will try to fill in the blanks that I have learned over the years. And the surprising shocker after thirty-three years. Because of the sensitive nature of this book I will be using the pen name Crystal Clary. The information I will be sharing with you was unknown to me at the time. I decided to write this book in Omniscient: so you as the reader will be able to see all and know all.

CHAPTER 1

Crystal Meets Sue

Crystal Clary had grown up in the foothills of Valley Ctr., California. Her mornings consisted of getting up early and bottle feeding the baby calves. And feeding the horses and pigs. The sound of a rooster named George can be heard. "Cock a doodle do."

She was surrounded by orange groves and nut farms. It was a beautiful way of life, crisp fresh air and friendly country people. There were plenty of trails to go hiking and Crystal took full advantage of that.

Her parents had divorced when she was only four years old and she resided with her mother and stepfather.

Blair, her father had also remarried and was relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. He contacted her mother on the phone and told her that he felt it was time for Crystal to come and live with him for a while. They both agreed that that would be a good idea.

When Blair informed Crystal that she would be moving to Las Vegas and living with him. She said, "Daddy, nobody lives in Las Vegas."

"I can assure you that people do live in Las Vegas," replied Blair. "The bus will be leaving on Saturday and I will pick you up at the station."

This would be a new adventure for her, she had never lived in the city and especially not in a gaming town. She wondered what it would be like. Could people really live in the desert?

The bus pulled into the Greyhound station, she could see all the glitz and glitter of the lights from the casinos and the vacationers walking to and fro from one casino to the other. It reminded her of one big playground for adults.

Her father was waiting for her when she arrived. She gathered up her suitcases and her father helps her load them into the van. She huggs and kisses him and they head to the new house that he purchased.

The aroma of sage fills her nostrils as they drive, reminding her of her farm home back in the country. A tinge of sadness swept over her, she would miss her family back home and her horses. But she was only 4 1/2 hours away from her mom and stepdad and could visit them anytime that she wanted.

The terrain was unusually flat, something that Crystal would have to get adjusted to since most of the state in California had rising and falling Hills. With the flat terrain you could see for miles in any given direction.

Finally they arrive at the house and are greeted by Ricky and Billy, her two younger brothers and Rachel, her stepmother. Her brothers show her to her bedroom so she could unpack her belongings and get adjusted to her new surroundings.

Looking out her bedroom window from the top floor, she could see rows and rows of houses that were basically the same color and had about four different floor plans. She couldn't help but notice how close together they all were. So this is the urban lifestyle.

Rachel walks up to Crystal's room and asks, "Are you getting settled in?" As she looks around the room and hopes that Crystal likes it.

"Yes I have plenty of room, this bed looks like my grandmother's old bedroom set," as Crystal studies the workmanship.

"It is your grandmother's old bedroom set, she gave it to your Dad just for you." Rachel always admired that bedroom set.

"My friend Carol has a daughter named Debbie and we were thinking of going to the community pool tomorrow. She's about your age. Would you like to come?" Asks Rachel.

"Sure, that sounds like fun," replies Crystal, as she wonders what swimming suit she should wear.

"Okay I'll see you in the morning, good night."

"Good night."

In the morning, Crystal rises early and starts shuffling through her closet. I think I'll wear my sun dress over my swimsuit. It had a burgundy paisley print with a white background which reached all the way down to the floor. She stood in front of the mirror brushing her long blonde hair behind her shoulders, to expose her very dark purple two-piece swimsuit. Boy do I need to get some sun I'm as white as a ghost. Slipping on her sundress and her beachcombers, she smiles at herself in the mirror and decides that she looks much better.

Once at the pool they meet up with Carol and Debbie. "Crystal, this is Carol and her daughter Debbie. You girls will be going to the same school this year."

Debbie looks Crystal up and down and says, "Do you want to get a soda from the coke machine?"

"Yeah I'm A little thirsty myself," as they leave and go over to the soda machine. Meanwhile, Rachel and Carol proceed to lay out in the sun on the lounge chairs.

"Do you like living here in Las Vegas?" Crystal asked.

"I'm originally from New York, but I like it a lot better here in Las Vegas because it's not as cold. We really don't get that much snow."

Debbie had medium curly brown hair and green eyes. She had a medium build and definitely had a New York accent. A couple of guys came up and started talking to Debbie. One of them was named Jack and the other one was named Johnny.

"Who's your friend Debbie?"

"Johnny this is Crystal. She just moved here from Southern California and this is Jack."

"Hello Crystal, I'm having a party over at my apartment tonight. Why don't you guys come over?" Johnny said.

"We will be there," replied Debbie. As she smiled at Crystal.

"Oh my gosh that Johnny is a cutie woo hoo, said Crystal. "Is he your boyfriend?"

"Oh no, I'm seeing Mike, but he looks like he's interested in you. All you have to do is bat those blue eyes and he'll come running." Debbie studied Crystal, she had small features. Her cheekbones were high and reminded her of Stevie Nicks. She was tiny probably about 5 feet tall, small frame but definitely had a healthy bosom.

"The other guy is, Jack. His girlfriend's name is Sue. She will probably be at the party and you will get to meet her. She moved out from St. Louis, Missouri. She is kind of small like you, maybe 2 inches taller."

That night Debbie came over, picked up Crystal and took her over to the party. Johnny was a guitar player and pretty good too. He played a bunch of songs for Crystal and she was having a really good time. Johnny had longer hair, kind of down the shoulders, layered, dark brown with...
