Joan Goodreau experience as a Special Education teacher and Program Specialist gives her the professional as well as a parent perspective on Autism Spectrum Disorder. She wrote Strangers Together: How My Son's Autism Changed My Life during a Hedgebook writing residency. The first chapter, "First Word," was nominated for the 2012 Pushcar Prize. Joan Goodreau’s stories, articles and poems have appeared in such publications as Dalhousie Review, Bloodroot Literary Magazine, Watershed Literary Magazine, The Broken Plate Literary Magazine, Floodplane Review, Telling Our Stories Anthology, 2nd Latitude Anthology, Ottawa Poetry Journal, Derelict Review, Plus Women’s Magazine, The Word Magazine, Flashquake, and Ahoy Magazine. She is currently working on a poetry book about the effects of autism on a family. A native Californian, she lived in England and Canada and now resides in Chico, California.
